LIFESTYLE: Pretty Mermaid Cake

Ok so I must confess one of my pet hates is ‘Characters’. I can’t stand Characters on clothes, wallpaper or cakes. But when you become a mother and your child gets to the age where they become obsessed with a particular character then the game is up. It’s over. They win!

You may remember my post from last year?  ‘Pretty Peppa’ which you can see here. This year’s latest obsession is Ariel.

If we are going to have a character cake I try my best to make them as non typical character cakes as possible. I know. What a selfish mother I am haha! Ariel is there so the kids are happy but the rest of the cake is a touch of mummy and could stand alone with or without Ariel on the top. But there are never any complaints. My girls are always are over the moon with their cakes. My cake maker is the best so I’m very lucky. Amy from Cookie Delicious is so talented and her cherry bakewell sponge is my absolute fave! Find her website here she is on Instagram as @cookie.delicious, Twitter @cookiedelish and has a Facebook page too. I’ve always got ideas for cakes but she always manages to put her own spin on it and blows me away everytime. Thank you Amy!

This is the first year our little one has had a party as she’s previously not really been interested in making friends but as she’s about to start school it’s all changed. She had a small party for which I got personalised party boxes from Dotty Hens (@dotty_hens on instagram), I filled them with fillers from Party Pieces (@partypieces) and busicuts from Cookie Kitchen who you will find on Facebook only. Our amazing tassle garland and balloons were from Fabulous Balloons (@fabulous_balloons on instagram and also have a facebook page). If you follow my instagram I have tagged all the photos. Fabulous Balloons are based in Liverpool but do not let that put you off. There are companies more local to Essex but I have been using Fabulous Balloons for a couple of years now and I find their quality hard to beat and the fact that they are sent direct to my door without me having the aggro of going to collect and squashing them into the car, makes it all the easier. Alot of balloon companies are collection only but it’s quite exciting getting the big box, opening it up  (with lots of care) and watching a balloon float out.

The cake topper was from squires kitchen shop (@squireskitchen). The holographic shell Plates were also from Party Pieces.

Im looking forward to planning my oldest daughters birthday already! I already have an idea in mind! ♡

For memaid themed tableware I recommend:
